Chandigarh MBBS admission 2026: current official status
Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32 publishes Chandigarh's centralised MBBS/BDS/BHMS prospectus and admission notices. GMCH MBBS admission is NEET UG merit based, but candidates must also complete the counselling route for their exact seat category.
As of 19 July 2026, GMCH's official admissions hub still displays its 2025 MBBS/BDS/BHMS page. The site has a separate 2026 paramedical admission page; that does not open MBBS registration. Candidates should wait for a page and prospectus explicitly labelled session 2026-27 before paying or uploading documents.
NMC's 2026-27 MBBS matrix was published on 14 July. GMCH's own current disclosure mentions 150 MBBS seats and its historical increase from 100 to 150, but the NMC matrix and final counselling matrix remain the controlling 2026 intake/seat-distribution evidence.
Chandigarh MBBS seat routes
| Seat family | Authority/source | Candidate action |
|---|---|---|
| All India Quota seats at GMCH | MCC | Register, fill GMCH AIQ choice and follow MCC rounds |
| Chandigarh pool/state or institutional seats | GMCH centralised admission process | Meet 2026 Chandigarh eligibility and apply to GMCH |
| SC/OBC-NCL/PwD or other reserved rows | Authority shown in 2026 matrix | Use exact current certificate and category |
| Foreign Indian Student seat if notified | GMCH prospectus | Meet status, residence, equivalence and payment rules |
Chandigarh is a Union Territory; calling every local row “state quota” can hide institutional and schooling requirements. Always use the exact term and code in the 2026 prospectus. MCC and GMCH registrations are independent.
Chandigarh's centralised prospectus historically also covered BDS at Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute and BHMS at Homoeopathic Medical College. Those courses do not create additional GMCH MBBS seats. Match course and institution carefully.
Chandigarh pool eligibility
The 2026 prospectus will control eligibility. Earlier GMCH prospectuses used detailed criteria tied to recognised schooling in the Union Territory of Chandigarh and specified exceptions/conditions. Residence alone should not be treated as sufficient, and studying in Mohali or Panchkula is not automatically the same as studying within Chandigarh UT.
Prepare Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 school records, school address/recognition evidence and any Chandigarh residence or category certificates that may apply. When the prospectus appears, compare the exact qualifying classes, years and exceptions rather than relying on a “Chandigarh domicile” label from a third-party website.
NEET eligibility is separate. Candidates must satisfy the 2026 nationality/OCI provisions, age and Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English requirements. Qualifying NEET does not establish Chandigarh pool eligibility or guarantee a seat.
Reservation and category evidence
GMCH's previous cycle published separate SC, OBC-NCL and PwD merit/eligibility material. The 2026 prospectus and matrix must confirm which categories apply, their roster and certificate requirements.
OBC-NCL claims require special care: the relevant central/UT list, non-creamy-layer status, issuing authority and validity date must match the prospectus. A state OBC certificate from Punjab or Haryana may not establish Chandigarh/MCC eligibility. Likewise, SC and EWS documents must be valid for the exact counselling route.
PwD candidates should use the designated disability certification process and the current NMC/MCC standards identified by the authority. Uploading a disability certificate does not by itself confirm MBBS eligibility.
Chandigarh MBBS admission process
- Save NEET UG 2026 records: scorecard, admit card, application number and AIR.
- Identify the route: MCC AIQ or GMCH Chandigarh pool/other notified category.
- Wait for the correct session: confirm the GMCH page and PDF say 2026-27.
- Read the full prospectus: eligibility, seat distribution, fee, reservation and schedule.
- Register separately: complete GMCH and/or MCC registration as required.
- Upload proof: schooling, category, PwD or foreign-status/equivalence documents.
- Check deficiency/eligibility lists: correct errors only through the official window.
- Review merit and seat matrix: match college, quota, category and course.
- Attend/follow counselling: comply with online or physical instructions for the round.
- Accept and report: pay through the authorised channel and present originals.
Prior GMCH cycles published provisional eligible, deficiency, category merit and not-eligible lists. Application submission is therefore not proof of eligibility. Monitor the admission page after registration and preserve every acknowledgement.
Choice and round strategy
GMCH MBBS is usually the main Chandigarh MBBS option, so the state/institutional list is narrower than a large state's choice list. Candidates should still compare MCC AIQ and GMCH local routes separately because their eligibility, rank pools and schedules differ.
If the centralised prospectus includes BDS and BHMS options, do not rank a different course merely to hold a place unless you would genuinely study it. Read whether counselling is choice based, in-person or uses a merit/call sequence, and follow the 2026 instructions exactly.
Provisional merit is not allotment. A later deficiency correction, revised matrix or category decision can change order. Use the final/revised result and written admission notice before surrendering another seat.
GMCH Chandigarh: verified college facts and due diligence
GMCH is a government institution in Sector 32, Chandigarh, affiliated for MBBS to Panjab University. Its official NMC disclosure records the MBBS course's establishment in 1991, recognition documentation and a later increase to 150 seats. The same disclosure reported 47,455 outpatients and 4,233 inpatient admissions for January 2026.
Those hospital figures are useful current training indicators, but they should be read with department-level teaching units, occupancy, emergency, surgery, delivery and internship information. A high monthly OPD does not guarantee equal bedside exposure for every student.
Evidence file for GMCH
- NMC 2026-27 matrix row and recognition/permission status.
- GMCH 2026 prospectus and exact seat distribution.
- MCC/GMCH round matrix for the candidate's quota.
- Official tuition, hostel, security and refund notice.
- Current NMC disclosure with hospital workload and faculty.
- Reporting venue, bond and original-document checklist.
Do not confuse GMCH Chandigarh with similarly abbreviated colleges elsewhere. Use the Sector 32 address and official government domain.
GMCH Chandigarh cutoff 2026
There is no single GMCH cutoff mark. The correct cutoff is the closing rank for one route, category and round. MCC AIQ general, Chandigarh pool general, SC, OBC-NCL, PwD and any foreign seat operate in different pools.
NEET marks-to-rank changes every year. Compare 2026 AIR with the official closing AIR or GMCH merit position for the matching row. Do not use a Punjab or Haryana state cutoff to predict Chandigarh.
- Aspirational: rank is weaker than multiple matching official closings.
- Competitive: rank lies near matching evidence.
- Relatively safer: rank is stronger than comparable evidence, never a guarantee.
Use final/revised allocation data rather than a coaching estimate. Later vacancy rounds can be irregular because GMCH has a limited number of MBBS seats.
GMCH Chandigarh MBBS fees and budget
A 2026 MBBS fee schedule was not visible on the GMCH admissions pages reviewed. This page does not copy a 2025 fee into a 2026 table. Use the 2026 prospectus and academic-fee notice after publication.
| Budget item | Source to use | Check |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition/academic funds | GMCH 2026 prospectus | Annual and one-time items |
| Hostel/security | GMCH hostel/reporting notice | Availability and refundable deposit |
| University/examination fee | Panjab University/GMCH notice | Separate payment and annual revision |
| MCC deposit | MCC 2026 bulletin | Refund/forfeiture rules |
| Foreign-seat payment | GMCH prospectus | Currency, instalment and status eligibility |
| Living costs | Family budget | Hostel versus Chandigarh rent |
Calculate the complete course and living cost, not only tuition. Hostel availability should be confirmed; an MBBS seat does not automatically prove a room is available. Pay only through GMCH's online academic-fee service or the beneficiary named in an official admission letter.
Foreign Indian Student route
The 2025 prospectus contained a distinct Foreign Indian Student route for MBBS, different from the BDS International/NRI route. It required NEET, qualifying-examination records, status/residence evidence and, for foreign/international boards, equivalence documentation from the specified authorities.
That historical structure must be rechecked in the 2026 prospectus. Do not call it simply an NRI seat or assume that an NRI sponsor alone is sufficient. Candidate status, residence categories, Panjab University eligibility and AIU/NMC-authorised equivalence may be relevant.
Never fabricate foreign status or pay an intermediary for a “converted” seat. Admission must appear in GMCH's official merit/allotment process.
Chandigarh MBBS document checklist

Post-allotment verification
- Match GMCH, course, quota, category and round.
- Confirm the result is final/revised, not only provisional.
- Read the current fee, hostel and reporting notice.
- Prepare originals, equivalence/category forms and copies.
- Pay only to the authorised beneficiary.
- Report within time and obtain document/payment acknowledgements.
- Check MCC/GMCH resignation or upgradation rules before another round.
Common mistakes
- Opening the 2026 paramedical page and assuming MBBS registration is live.
- Treating Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula schooling as identical.
- Registering only with MCC for a GMCH local seat.
- Using a Punjab/Haryana OBC certificate without checking the relevant list.
- Confusing Foreign Indian Student MBBS with NRI BDS terminology.
- Treating GMCH's total intake as the local-pool seat count.
- Quoting a 2025 fee as confirmed 2026.
- Comparing marks instead of exact quota/category closing ranks.
- Ignoring deficiency or not-eligible lists.
- Paying for unofficial direct admission.
Frequently asked questions
Has Chandigarh MBBS admission 2026 opened?
As checked on 19 July, GMCH's admissions page still linked the 2025 MBBS/BDS/BHMS cycle. The visible 2026 page was for paramedical admissions.
Who handles GMCH MBBS counselling?
GMCH publishes the Chandigarh centralised prospectus/local process, while MCC handles AIQ seats.
How many MBBS seats does GMCH have?
GMCH's current disclosure mentions 150 seats. Use NMC's 2026 matrix and the final counselling matrix for current intake and quota distribution.
Can non-Chandigarh candidates apply?
They can compete through applicable AIQ or other notified routes. Chandigarh pool eligibility must be established under the 2026 prospectus.
What is the 2026 fee?
A current 2026 MBBS fee schedule was not visible at review. Use the GMCH 2026 prospectus when published.
What is the GMCH cutoff?
Use the official closing rank for the exact AIQ/local category and round. One marks figure is misleading.
Action plan
Save NEET 2026 documents and decide whether you need MCC AIQ, GMCH Chandigarh pool or a foreign-status route. Monitor the official GMCH admissions hub until the MBBS/BDS/BHMS page explicitly changes to 2026-27. Prepare schooling and category evidence but confirm formats against the new prospectus.
Cross-check GMCH in the NMC matrix, register for each relevant authority, respond to deficiency lists and report only on official allotment. Keep dated copies of every notice and payment receipt.
