Which documents are required for MBBS counselling in 2026?
Most candidates should prepare their NEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard, Class 10 and 12 records, identity proof, photographs and the documents supporting every quota or category they claim. After allotment, the provisional allotment letter and the reporting institution's forms become essential. The exact list is not identical across MCC, state counselling, universities and colleges.
A document accepted during online registration can still be checked again during physical or online reporting. Successful upload is not proof that a category, domicile or NRI claim has been finally accepted. The competent authority verifies format, issuing authority, dates, validity and the candidate's underlying eligibility.
Never edit a certificate, create a claim after the permitted deadline or rely on an agent's substitute format. If the name, date of birth, category or spelling differs across records, contact the issuing authority and counselling helpdesk early rather than hiding the mismatch.
MBBS counselling 2026 master checklist
| Document group | Prepare now | Who usually needs it |
|---|---|---|
| NEET records | 2026 admit card, scorecard/rank document and application confirmation where requested | All candidates |
| Academic | Class 10 certificate; Class 12 marksheet and passing certificate | All candidates |
| Identity | Accepted government photo ID, photographs and signature copies | All candidates |
| Allotment | Registration proof, choice record and provisional allotment letter when issued | Registered/allotted candidates |
| Reservation | SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS or other applicable certificate in prescribed format | Only candidates claiming that benefit |
| State eligibility | Domicile, residence, nativity, schooling or parent-service evidence | Candidates using a state-specific claim |
| PwBD | Certificate from the authority/centre specified for counselling | PwBD claimants |
| NRI/minority | Relationship, status, sponsorship and supporting records exactly as notified | Eligible quota claimants only |

This is a union checklist: it contains items that may apply across different systems. It is not a statement that every candidate must submit every item.
NEET UG and academic documents
NEET UG 2026 admit card
Keep the final admit card used for the applicable examination and any additional copy requested by the authority. Preserve the PDF downloaded from the official NTA portal rather than relying only on a screenshot. If NTA issued a re-examination admit card applicable to the candidate, organise the correct record.
NEET UG 2026 scorecard
Download the official scorecard from NTA and save the original digital file. Check candidate name, roll number, marks, percentile, AIR, category and qualifying status. A coaching result image or search-engine marks calculator is not a counselling scorecard.
Class 10 documents
The Class 10 certificate or marksheet is commonly used to establish date of birth and identity spelling. If the board issues separate passing and date-of-birth records, follow the counselling bulletin's wording. Name differences should be supported through the officially accepted correction or affidavit process only when the authority permits it.
Class 12 documents
Prepare the marksheet and passing certificate showing the required subjects and result. Candidates from improvement, compartment, open-school or foreign-board pathways should check the NEET bulletin and counselling rules for additional evidence. Do not assume a digital marksheet automatically replaces an original at reporting unless the authority says so.
Eligibility or equivalence records
Where applicable, obtain the specified equivalence, eligibility or board documentation. Foreign or non-standard qualifications can require additional verification. Ask the relevant counselling authority and institution in writing before choice locking.
Identity, photographs and contact consistency
- Government photo identity accepted by the current bulletin.
- Recent passport-size photographs matching the specified size and background.
- Postcard-size photograph or signature/thumb-impression image only if requested.
- PAN or Aadhaar where the authority, institution or payment/KYC process requires it.
- Active candidate email and mobile number used for registration and OTPs.
Do not share passwords, OTPs or login control with an agent. Counselling choices, consent and payment should remain under the candidate family's control. Keep identity numbers masked in ordinary email unless the official helpdesk specifically requests a secure submission.
SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS certificates
A reservation certificate is valid only for the seat system whose rules recognise it. MCC and a state authority can prescribe different formats, competent issuing authorities, lists and validity dates. An OBC certificate by itself may not establish OBC-NCL eligibility for a central seat pool; the applicable central list and current non-creamy-layer conditions may matter. State-category recognition does not automatically transfer to AIQ.
EWS documents are also tied to prescribed criteria, certificate format and financial year or validity requirements stated in the bulletin. Do not publish or follow a generic “certificate valid forever” rule. SC/ST candidates should likewise match the notified form and authority.
Category checklist
- Confirm that the category on the NEET record and counselling registration is correct.
- Download the exact annexure or format from the current authority.
- Check issue date, validity period and competent signatory.
- Verify spelling, parent name and address consistency.
- Carry originals plus the number of copies requested at reporting.
- Read the consequence if a certificate is rejected; do not assume automatic conversion to unreserved.
Domicile, residence, nativity and schooling proof
State counselling eligibility is state-specific. The authority may use domicile, residence, schooling, birth, parent residence, parent service or another defined connection. These terms are not interchangeable. A candidate who can register for a private seat may not necessarily qualify for a government-quota or reserved state seat.
Potential evidence can include a prescribed domicile or nativity certificate, residence record, school-study certificates, parent employment/service documentation or board records. Submit only what the current prospectus requires. A rent agreement, Aadhaar address or birthplace alone may not establish domicile if the rule demands something else.
Candidates with schooling across multiple states, children of transferable employees and OCI/NRI families should obtain written clarification early. Save the prospectus version and helpdesk reply because eligibility language may be revised by a later notice.
PwBD certificate and assessment
A general disability certificate may not by itself complete a medical-counselling PwBD claim. MCC has historically issued notices and designated-centre requirements for eligible candidates, while the current counselling bulletin controls the 2026 procedure. Check whether assessment, certificate format, disability type and timing must come from a named centre.
- Read the 2026 counselling bulletin and PwBD notice, not only the NEET examination accommodation record.
- Book assessment early if a designated centre is required.
- Carry existing disability records, identity and examination documents.
- Confirm whether the certificate is valid for the specific medical-course admission process.
- Do not assume that scribe/compensatory-time approval equals counselling reservation approval.
Accessibility needs during reporting should be communicated directly to the counselling authority and allotted institution.
NRI quota document planning
NRI eligibility and conversion are controlled by the authority's current notice. MCC has issued round-specific NRI conversion notices in earlier sessions, which is why candidates must not upload an old annexure in 2026 without checking. The exact relationship categories, deadlines, submission channel and affidavit wording can change.
Depending on the notified rules, a file may require evidence of the NRI person or sponsor's status, passport/visa or residence documentation, relationship evidence, sponsorship undertaking or affidavit, and financial/support records. Embassy or consular documentation may be required in a prescribed form. The candidate must meet the actual relationship definition; a willing overseas payer is not automatically a valid NRI sponsor.
NRI safety checks
- Use only the current authority notice and annexures.
- Match candidate and sponsor names across passports and relationship records.
- Obtain attestations or consular documents only when and how prescribed.
- Upload within the round-specific conversion window.
- Preserve sent email, portal acknowledgement and eligible-candidate list where published.
- Do not purchase sponsorship papers or create a false relationship.
Minority, CW, ESIC and institutional claims
Minority certificates, children/widows of armed-forces personnel documentation, ESIC insured-person eligibility and internal/institutional quota claims each have separate rules. These are not general categories that can be selected because a candidate prefers a college. The appropriate university, authority or designated portal may require a separate application in addition to MCC registration.
Check whether entitlement verification occurs before choice filling and whether a provisional list is published. Carry the primary certificate plus relationship, service, insurance or institutional records listed in the notice. If the verification deadline is missed, later production at the college may not revive the claim.
Documents after seat allotment
Once a seat is allotted, download the provisional allotment letter from the official portal and read its reporting instructions. Confirm the college name, course, quota, category and round. The allotted institution can request additional forms consistent with the authority and university process.
- Provisional allotment letter and counselling registration/payment proof.
- Choice-locking or submitted-choice record where available.
- Original NEET, identity, academic and claimed-category documents.
- Medical fitness certificate in the specified format.
- Migration, transfer and conduct/character certificates where required.
- Anti-ragging undertakings through the prescribed system.
- Gap affidavit only where applicable and requested.
- College admission forms and required photographs/copies.
- Fee payment mode, demand draft or online proof exactly as instructed.
- Bond, service obligation or discontinuation documents after careful reading.
Do not sign blank bonds or declarations. Read fee liability, service conditions, original-document custody and resignation consequences. Obtain a signed acknowledgement for originals deposited with the college.
Originals, photocopies and document custody
Prepare a labelled original folder and multiple copy sets, but follow the actual reporting notice for counts and attestation. Keep a high-quality digital backup separately. If a college retains originals under the lawful reporting process, request an itemised receipt showing each document and the authorised recipient.
Never give originals to a counsellor, broker or unofficial representative. If an original is temporarily unavailable because it is held by another recognised institution, seek authority guidance; do not submit a fabricated duplicate or false loss report.
Scanning and upload checklist
- Download fresh originals: use NTA, board, DigiLocker or issuing-authority files where accepted.
- Scan clearly: include all edges, seals, signatures, QR codes and reverse-side entries.
- Follow format limits: use the required PDF/JPG type, dimensions and maximum size.
- Name files logically: keep candidate name and document type without unusual symbols.
- Check readability: open every uploaded file on a second device.
- Submit from a stable connection: avoid the final minutes of the deadline.
- Save proof: download the submitted application, receipt and locked choices.
- Protect data: store backups securely and avoid public shared-computer downloads.
Compression should not make certificate numbers or seals unreadable. Never crop away the issuing authority, date, annexure heading or validity statement.
Name or date mismatch: what to do
First identify which record is wrong and whether its issuing authority offers correction. Review the 2026 bulletin for accepted identity-mismatch evidence or affidavit procedure. An affidavit may explain a discrepancy but does not necessarily amend the underlying board, category or identity record.
Contact the counselling helpdesk with a concise written query containing application details but avoid exposing sensitive documents publicly. Preserve the ticket or email reply. Do not wait until physical reporting if the mismatch affects registration, category or eligibility.
Seven-day preparation plan
- Day 1: download NEET scorecard/admit card and audit names, DOB and category.
- Day 2: collect Class 10/12 originals and board digital backups.
- Day 3: verify category, EWS, domicile or PwBD validity against draft/current rules.
- Day 4: organise conditional NRI, minority, CW or ESIC files only if genuinely applicable.
- Day 5: scan, label and test every file; create two physical copy sets.
- Day 6: check official MCC and state portals for new bulletins, annexures and schedules.
- Day 7: resolve discrepancies and create a deadline calendar for registration and reporting.
Common rejection risks
- Uploading an old OBC-NCL or EWS format without checking 2026 validity.
- Assuming a state category certificate is valid for AIQ.
- Using address proof as domicile when the prospectus requires a specific certificate.
- Confusing NEET PwBD exam accommodation with counselling certification.
- Submitting an old MCC NRI conversion affidavit.
- Missing a separate entitlement-verification portal or deadline.
- Unreadable, cropped or password-protected uploads.
- Name differences left unexplained until reporting.
- Giving originals or OTP access to an intermediary.
Frequently asked questions
Is Aadhaar mandatory for every counselling process?
Follow the exact 2026 authority bulletin. Identity and KYC requirements can differ; do not replace the prescribed list with a universal assumption.
Is a domicile certificate needed for MCC AIQ?
AIQ and state domicile rules are different. Domicile is commonly relevant to state claims; check the MCC bulletin and any institutional quota conditions separately.
Can I upload DigiLocker documents?
Use them only where the authority accepts digital records. Keep originals or other prescribed records ready for reporting.
Is the NEET scorecard enough for college reporting?
No. Academic, identity, allotment and any claimed-category documents are also checked, together with college-specific reporting forms.
Can I submit an NRI affidavit from last year?
Do not assume so. Use the 2026 round-specific notice, relationship definition, deadline and annexure.
What if my original certificate is missing?
Contact the issuing authority and counselling helpdesk immediately. Follow only the official duplicate or permitted undertaking procedure; do not fabricate a replacement.
Final verification rule
Create three columns for every item: “prepared,” “uploaded,” and “original verified.” Then reconcile the list against the current 2026 MCC or state bulletin, every later corrigendum, the allotment letter and the college reporting notice. Where instructions conflict, seek written clarification from the competent authority before the deadline.
